The holiday season is upon us, and in many parts of the world people are currently in winter. So, it is a great time to review great themes for WordPress. Even if you hate winter, many of these themes were well designed and fit appropriately with the season.
NOTE: These themes are not guaranteed to work with the latest version of WordPress. Read the details at the developer’s site before installing them.
Winter Ice [PREVIEW] – A two column, fixed width (930 px) theme that features a polar bear and winter background. Overall the colors are textured blue and white, however in my opinion the text could be improved for readability.
Frozen Age – A two column winter theme featuring a clean layout and a mountain scene as the header. Designed by NodeThirtyThree and Free WP Templates/Free CSS Templates, it is also available as a CSS website.
Winter Theme – Courtesy of Lunar Pages, this theme has two columns – with the sidebar on the right, and a small snowman on the top right corner of the sidebar. The overall look of the theme is clean and organized.
Xmas Theme – Another theme from Lunar Pages, this holiday theme uses gingerbread, candy canes, and ornaments as icons next to post titles, in the sidebar title, and as part of the header. A simple theme, with two columns – right sidebar and a green and red color scheme.
WP-Andreas01 1.7 [PREVIEW] has proven to be a versatile theme, supporting widgets and header images. It has three columns, is fixed width, with a left/right sidebar, and a white/clean color format. This theme is included as the default image is of a small town in winter, and the color scheme is reminiscent of winter.
Iceburgg [PREVIEW] is full of whites and blues, and was crafted to meet valid XHTML and CSS standards. The theme is one column, which splits into three columns right before the footer with categories, search, and a customizable about section.
Merry Christmas WordPress Theme [PREVIEW] – This theme was designed for use around Christmas, with very bold colors. The main content background is white, with a 3-column footer. There is also animated snow, with the option to change wind speed and turn it off. Above the main content is a navigation bar.
The Lingering Season [PREVIEW] – A winter theme by Zunruss (theme location), that not only is a unique design, with valid XHTML and CSS, but easily installs and is ready to use.
Geometric Reality of Life WordPress Theme [PREVIEW] – Designed around a typical reminder of the holiday season – a cardinal with holly and snow, this is a unique design, with valid XHTML/CSS, an easy installation, and clean code. It has one left-aligned column.
NT-Winter Country [PREVIEW] – A stylish snowy winter theme, with well-blended colors, a right-aligned sidebar, and a stunning header.
Kukuwinter [PREVIEW] – Graphic-wise, this theme is good if you don’t like themes that simply have shaded or gradient graphics. Instead, this theme utilized an tremendously image-driven layout with colors that make it look great.
Snow Crystals is a brown and green color-themed template with two columns and non-cluttered text from Free WP Themes.
Winter Stream [PREVIEW] – Widget support, a clean and fairly simple layout, along with a cool header image make this theme great for someone who is writing a blog about skiing or just want a change around the holiday season. Tested in popular browsers.
Christmas Days [PREVIEW] – A holiday-inspired theme by the popular blog designers at Design Disease. This theme combines a header consisting of snow and holly, with well-integrated colors and background images for the main content area and sidebar.
