The ‘Weblog’ Turns 10 Years Old

Ten years ago today, December 17, 1997, Jorn Barger of Robot Wisdom first made the term ‘weblog’ to describe the list of links he gathered while browsing the Internet. In a recent post by Wired, he discusses ten tip to help new bloggers become successful. Although his tips are primarily geared towards link blogs, he also discusses that being yourself is one of the most important parts of blogging, as well as keeping your blog up to date.

Less than one year later, Pyra Labs launched Blogger, now owned by Google, one of the most widely used blogging platforms.

If we take a look at blogs today, many look totally different from those ten years ago. The overall focus of today’s blog is provide information, but linking is still one of the key points to blogging – as each blog is linked to one another in some way. As ten years have passed, what can we expect to see in the next ten years – if blogging continues to be as popular as it is?
