WordPress.com Adds RSS Enhancements

by Kevin on December 20, 2007

The new, enhanced feeds apply to WordPress.com users, not WordPress.org users (self-hosted blogs). In this addition, WordPress.com feeds are supercharged with the following feed widgets: comment count, categories, tags, ‘Add to Del.icio.us” link, ‘Digg It!’ link, and ‘Stumble It!’ link. Also added is a comment count widget, which is enabled by default, but you can switch off this feature.

To activate, go into the ‘Reading Options’ page found by going to Options, then Reading and then scroll down. Use the checkboxes to turn the enhanced feeds on or off.

Very similar to Feedburner’s tools for adding comments, tracking Diggs, etc., this makes it easier for WordPress users to add the same functionality to their blogs – without having to use any other services. Currently, there are enough social networking/ranking sites (Stumbleupon, Del.icio.us, and Digg) in the Enhanced Feeds for most users, however more options should be added in the future, such as an ‘Email This’ link, or the ability to customize the links.
