WordPress 2.3.3 Released

by Kevin on February 5, 2008

WordPress 2.3.3 has been released, which is an urgent security release. This update fixes a security problem found in the XML-RPC implementation that allowed a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. A few minor bugs have been fixed. Because the update is mainly for the XML-RPC, it isn’t necessary to download and update the entire WordPress files and database.

The WordPress development team has also addressed the vulnerability in the WP-Forum plugin, as there is now an update from its author.

They remind you to change your passwords, as it is a good time to do so, since updates are released on a fairly consistent basis, about once a month.

If you are unsure of how to go about doing this, or don’t necessarily have the time to perform an update, please review the WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin. All you have to do is go under WP Dashboard > Manage > Automatic Upgrade, then follow the simple steps, which involve little more than clicking continue, backup database, and then WordPress has been upgraded.

For those of you using the Multiple User (MU) version of WordPress, version 1.3.3 has been released and is now available for download. Everyone is encouraged to upgrade as it is a critical security release based on WordPress 2.3.3.
