bbPress Version 0.9 Now Available

Version 0.9 of bbPress is now available via an announcement on the bbPress blog.  This is an important release for those of you who are integrating bbPress with WordPress and wishes to update to WordPress 2.5, as it is primarily a compatibility release.

Features, Improvements, and Changes

• New installer – more language support, better appearance, creates your bb-config.php file whenever possible, and allows for setting up integration with WordPress at install time.
• Additional RSS feeds for views.
• A “new topics” RSS feed – available on the front page and on each forum.
• More configurable <title> tag available to themes.
• More secure authentication cookies compatible with WP 2.5.
• Passwords stored using “phpass” hashing library instead of md5.
• Second, new core theme.
• New options – General and WordPress Integration via admin interface.
• Built-in support for Gravatars.
• Additional “date and time format” and “date format” options.
• Akismet and Bozo functions have been moved to plugins.
• “replies” query string argument removed from topic links.
• Fixes to use of PHP “glob()” function – solves problem of errors on hosts that don’t support it.
• Moderators are now able to manage tags by default.
• Slug incrementation fixed.
• Admin email setting now called from email.
• No replies changed to “no replies and greater than 2 hours old”.
• Export scripts improved.
• RSS feeds now sent as UTF-8.
• Full support for slug-based feeds on both the forum and topic feeds.
• Keymasters no longer demoted by non-keymasters.
• Smaller bugs and typo fixes addressed.

Because of bbPress’ many fixes, it is important that you download this new version.  If you are upgrading, there are more (14) steps involved than the typical process.

Despite the security fixes, it appears as though you should upgrade with caution until errors on the forums are resolved.
