New Sharing Options in Google Reader

by Kevin on May 5, 2008

The team working on Google Reader has announced new sharing and bookmarking options through the Reader interface intended to make the task of saving/sharing your favorite sites/blogs a snap.

Google Reader - Notes

Bookmarking - A link has been provided within your Notes page, which can be dragged to your browser bookmarks bar.  Simply click the link on a page you wish to share on Google Reader.  From this, a note can be added to the page, similar to the current method in Google Bookmarks.

Share with Note - Below each feed, an additional button has been included, to “Share with note”, which creates a copy of that item with a note attached to it.

Add a Note - This option allows you to share a thought with your friends without the need to attach any particular item or post.  Option found at the top of the Notes page.

Shared Items Page Additions - Three new styles have been added – “Default”, “Ice Cream”, “Ninjas”, and “Sea”, which add a few different choices for those of you who would like multiple options.

If an item is being shared by a friend, it is placed in a different area, separated from your normal subscriptions.

In my opinion, these are some great options for sharing, making the whole sharing experience just a little more convenient.

On a side note: Google Docs now has an option for embedding differently sized presentations – small, medium, or large, making it less cumbersome to add presentations to your blog if using Google Presentations.
