Methods of Writing Like a Pro

Professional writers have certain characteristics that allow them to build their writing style over time, rather than random posting that doesn’t get them further, but may be quicker in the short-term—a style that many first-time bloggers can become quite familiar with. While you need to begin with the drive and motivation to write the best content possible, you also need to exhibit some of the methods and procedures that the top writers all possess – something that takes months, if not years to master.

Think about something familiar that you know how to do. Despite the fact that you may do it every single day, possibly repeatedly, there will always be different ways of approaching the task, ways that may or may not improve the overall result. It may be some time before you even think about venturing to these alternative methods, especially if the original method was quite “satisfactory” and gave you the results you wanted.

Writing shouldn’t be hard, nor should it be easy. If it is to any one side of the spectrum, you must be doing something wrong. Writers have their own styles, and this is how you should also look at writing or running your blog.

  1. It doesn’t matter if some of your posts haven’t been completed – you have the lifespan of your blog to update them and ensure that your readers get fed the latest in the topic that you are covering. A large number of drafts in the list of posts mean that you have ideas, and won’t be getting writer’s block any time soon.
  2. Spend more time writing content. Longer posts typically draw in more traffic, as visitors notice that you have spent time researching and compiling information to be included in the post.
  3. Take breaks in-between writing posts. This will help you refresh and start anew with the next post. As many people soon realize after you start bogging, once you finish one post, you have to start almost immediately on the next. Some “pro” bloggers write posts in separate sittings, as new ideas crop up.
  4. Never hesitate to keep notes and continually think of ideas, even if you are away from your computer or a source of the Internet. A good idea is to keep a journal or notebook, of sorts.
  5. Spend time brainstorming ideas so you are never out of ideas for upcoming posts, eliminating the need to combat writer’s blog should you ever develop it.
  6. Write less, but in an optimized format. Much to the opposite of number two, you should focus on getting the writer done sooner, so you aren’t scrambling to meet your deadlines (such as one post per day), eliminating larger grammar/spelling errors.

While these were some basics on how to begin your pursuit to writing like a pro, what other tips can you provide for people who may be interested in learning how to write like this?
