Looking Back at Your Blog in 2008

As the year is rapidly coming to a close (and you might have already entered the new year by the time you read this), you need to think about what you have accomplished on your blog. No matter how big or small, you would have had to have some accomplishments within your blog, from commenting on other blogs more or interacting with your readers more. These are the goals that you set at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008 that you set out to attain.

You have to ask yourself what truly amounted to the most long-term benefits. Was it, referring back to the previous point, the fact that you commented more on other blogs, increasing readership at your own site? Or was it simply the fact that you did blog more?

The following is a list of some ideas to think about when you reflect on what you did accomplish throughout the past year.

  1. Did I become a better blogger – in what ways have I improved my own blog(s)?
  2. Was I able to successfully carry out the goals that I set over the past year (whether they were long- or short-term goals)?
  3. Did I encourage other people to blog (there could always be more bloggers entering the ’sphere)?
  4. How many posts did I publish plus, how many was my average per day? Is there a way that I will be able to increase this rate in the upcoming year(s)?
  5. How have I become more productive?
  6. How will I be able to connect with more people through my blog, even if I have already tried this (with not-so-great success) in the past?
  7. How will you evolve your blog as blogging evolves? Will you include more media forms (video, images, podcasts), or change/keep the same theme that you have been using to suit the new tastes of an evolving generation of people using the Internet to broadcast their likes, dislikes, and thoughts?

Keeping the topics above in mind, what will be your primary focus in the upcoming year? Do you see yourself abandoning blogging as you haven’t had such great results in the past year(s) or do you see yourself launching new blogs, inviting guest writers to help grow your site, or trying to “make the best of” blogging?

Let me know what your plans are in these respects in the upcoming timeframe.
