10 Great, Recently Updated WordPress Plugins
by Kevin on January 9, 2009
Recently, I have discovered a few plugins that should be recommended to everyone using WordPress, as they are either unique, bring new features to the platform, or are simply useful to make a part of your daily blogging routine.
– Cross Post – This plugin is for users of WordPress MU (Multiple User) only. It is ideal for people who want to run multiple blogs and have posts “cross-posted” or displayed to other blogs managed within the same instance of the installation. There is no duplication involved.
– WP-EasyArchives – A plugin designed to do one thing – display your archive tree in a search engine-friendly way on a custom page.
– StackOverflow.com Reputation Widget – A sidebar widget that displays your user information from StackOverflow.com. Simply login to the service through your blog and the plugin will do the rest of the work – displaying a link to your profile, your reputation, and the quantity of badges you’ve earned.
– WordPress Slidebox – A show slide panel for tags, archives, or other content. The panel can slide down or come to the left or right side. There is an advanced configuration panel to get the desired look; additional features will be added in the future.
– WP Emaily – An email creation plugin that allows you to select specific articles to be included into an email template. Additional themes and more features will be added in the future.
– WP Issuu – Does one thing – makes it easier to embed Issuu publications into your blog using a specific embedding structure.
– PS Disable Auto Formatting – Stops the automatic formatting of WordPress and modifies the HTML source generated by the visual editor. It also prevents the unintended removal of the break and paragraph tags, and achieves to generate the paragraph formatting that you intended. The options include (enable or disable): content formatting, comment formatting, excerpt formatting, and term description formatting, as well as batch formatting for automatic support.
– WMaps – A plugin that allows you to display Google Maps in your posts (a different approach than adding IFrames).
– Disable Flash Uploader – Sets the default Browser Uploader to the non-Flash version for people having trouble using the new version of Flash.
– CleanPrint – Dynamically creates print-optimized content when users print your blog posts. It creates paginated outputs that allows you to customize the way users print and read your content in a traditional format. Overall, it hopes to allow you to distribute your content through a more professional, magazine-like format. An image/link will be added to the bottom of each post.
If you have any plugins that you have used recently and would like to share with other readers, please share them in the comments area.
