Duplicating Your Own Success

It goes without saying that you have to learn what works and what doesn’t. But, when it comes to the long-term success of your blog, it becomes even more important. Unless you continue to look at what you have achieved, you will continue to perceive yourself as just another character in the whole ‘sphere of blogging, and this is a position that you don’t want to be.

A misconception that should be changed or reversed is the thought that you have to be someone that you aren’t – a blogger that is “successful” and really achieving the dreams that he or she set out to attain. Your morales and principles might be anything but the complete opposite of the other people, leaving you trying to replicate something that can’t be accomplished.

Your Own Voice

What’s unique about blogging, compared to journalism or other forms of traditional media is that you don’t really have to cater to what people want. You do what you want. If you don’t want to post in a certain style, then you don’t have to. If you don’t want to post about a certain topic, there is really no reason to. Unless you do blog for “old media,” you can maintain and organize your blog the way you want to.

For all these reasons, if you like the way you write, the way your blog is going, there are many reasons why it is good to replicate your own success. It’s tweaking theseĀ formulas that makes bloggers feel as though they are no longer unique and relevant, in comparison to where they started.

Your Own Formula Works Best

Even though most people you ask will tell you to try changing and evolving over time, in the same way that I have done in the past, once you are able to develop a format that works, it would be imperative of you to change something that it took months, if not years, to develop.

It isn’t to say that we could all be wrong in the way we go about what we are doing. There will always be a better way of reaching bliss, or the place we can really say works.

There are thousands of mistakes that we have to go through before it becomes possible to even start considering ways to revise what we are doing. They might take place mid-way through the process of working on a project, but other than that, you have to have the time to look back on what you’ve done before you can even begin work on the next step.

Starting a New Project

Following the principles above, setting your own style for your next project, whether that be a blog or more traditional website, you have to keep in mind your core beliefs, what you believe will work in the long-term, more than anything else. Even though someone might be literally shouting over your shoulder to do something, you really should be following what you believe will work – that doesn’t mean to ignore them, however.

So, the next time you think about a new project, include new ideas, but don’t forget what has made you successful, even in the smallest of ways, with your previous work, whether that be writing, communicating with your readers, or just being able to bring your voice to a new medium.
