Branching Off of One Main Idea

A problem that many have when creating content for publication is that it takes more time to think of new topic than it does to write it. Actively following topics and news stories in your niche won’t always save you, especially in niches where there simply isn’t a whole lot of news. No matter how you look at creating new content, there will always be struggles, although I have a great way of eliminating the need to continually search for new topics.

Assuming that your blog is relatively new or at a transition point, you will find this technique much easier to implement. You will need a single topic, or a few main ideas that you want to address on your site. These may be broad enough that you could create many sub-topics should you need to.

Now, taking this main idea, you have to craft a single post that is somewhat complete in addressing the core information about the topic, an introduction, if you will.

There might be some drafting involved along the way, including writing down how you plan on going about writing the next few posts (each main topic could easily create at least ten sub-posts or additional topics).

Many bloggers already use this method, and there is a high chance that they don’t even know it, let alone their readers. Essentially, it works as follows:

  1. A main post is created.
  2. Comments and ideas inspired from the main post are used to spin off additional posts.
  3. A “series” is created, following the initial post as the title/main theme of the upcoming posts.
  4. Keywords and new ideas generated from each additional post continues the “web,”

Although there are certainly flaws to this idea, it can be used in those occasions in which you don’t have too many ideas to generate a new post. Thinking about what you have published in the past, you build your blog around a few, central ideas until you can come out of the idea block.
