Consequences of Posting Multiple Times Per Day
by Kevin on May 23, 2009
An average blogger doesn’t post more than one post per day. Taking a look at most smaller blogs with a single author, there are rarely cases where you can find multiple posts in a single day. This may be mainly due to the lack of time or no need to really post frequently.
While some will say that there are benefits to posting more frequently, I have collected some basic facts that will prove otherwise.
Number 1 – Your Readers Probably Won’t Read Everything You Publish
Despite the fact that it takes less time to read your content than it might take to draft, write, and revise it, people don’t usually want to have to read a dozen or more articles each day, no matter how much they want to. If you want to create high-quality content, it might be better to stick to a single post that your readers will enjoy reading.
Number 2 – More Work, Less Benefits
Writing multiple posts per day can be beneficial when you look at the fact that you are practicing and honing in on your writing skills, but for your bottom-line, you are only increasing the number of posts on your blog and not the full potential of your site.
Some bloggers find that when they post more frequently, their traffic rates don’t increase proportionately to their posts, and readers will unsubscribe due to the overwhelming factor involved.
Number 3 – Reserved to the Larger Blogs
Many larger blogs that cover a diverse array of subjects tend to post more than just a few posts per day. News organizations and blogs that cover new products tend to post upwards of ten posts per day, but it all depends on the day of the week – over the weekend, their posting frequency drops dramatically, to just two or three posts.
The reason for so many posts is the viewership: people want to see frequent updates throughout the day, with new content arriving if they should check in the morning and again in the afternoon/evening.
Number 4 – Advertising/Income
Often, everything comes back to the fact that it becomes more difficult to get advertisers for your site when your content doesn’t meet the “requirements” of your advertisers, who are looking for a good place to promote their service or product.
Publishing multiple times per day simply says that you are devoted to creating as much content as possible, at any cost.
Conclusion
Some people tend to believe that the most you publish, the more results you get. Summarized, this isn’t always true, especially for blogs with smaller audiences. It can help grow your site faster, especially if you begin by only publishing once per week or less.
The basis around post frequency is finding the happy medium for your particular blog and the time that you are able to allocate to your blog.

I agree with you on this. Posting more than once a day can lead to “blogger burnout” as it is impossible for a single blogger to keep that up for more than a couple of months. I found a groove of posting 5 days a week and I do not post on the weekend. This seems to be working well for me. Each blogger needs to find what works best for them and be consistent with it. I just discovered your blog and I really like it. I will be back
