Overcoming the Fact that Perfectionism and Organization Don’t Exist

In the world of the Web and blogs, perfectionism and organization do not exist. This is something that I realized quite quickly, and still struggle to deal with. In a perfect world, it would.

Before you even begin the installation of a blog on a hosting account, you are faced with the reality that you have to have some type of structure to combat the thousands upon thousands of files that you will be uploading. Call me compulsive, but I hate dealing with thousands of files that may have little to no meaning, with titles that are scrambled strings of characters.

Once you have begun the blog, database tables are created, and if you’ve ever looked at a table, just for your posts, for example, you will find that there is literally no way to separate everything. Combine all the separate tables together and you end up with an unmanageable piece of coding that would take years to decipher. Although you don’t have to understand much about databases and tables to use a basic blog, you may really question why you didn’t learn the basics when you don’t have any backup and you need to fix a problem.

Content organization, through the process of uploading files to posts, can lead to full-out complication, and even more so if you implement a custom solution where images aren’t easily managed and where all posts use a dynamic/random URL. This is more so when you have thousands of articles on your site. By the time you have reached several years of content, it becomes overwhelming, especially if you have to look back at what you have done in the past.

By the time you’ve been blogging for one month, you no longer have the desire to check to make sure that all your posts are formatted in the same way. Your theme’s code is no longer validating because you’ve been implementing changes along the way, adding widgets and various codes.

When you hit the “Publish” button, you quickly realize that you forgot to attach a description field to one of the images. While a small detail, you want your blog to remain consist. A large part of blogging is trying to remain as consistent as possible, but when it comes to creating posts and the time that you have, you have to focus on the content aspect. While time may be running short, you can either go back to fix the minor problems or continue and advance, creating new content.

In the field of spam comments, you want to keep your blog as free of them as possible. Focusing on an approach that deletes all questionable comments, you may find that, over time, some spam comments do make their way in, and this has to be accepted as real life.

Here is the piece of advice for all of you who focus heavily on creating the best experience for your visitors, trying to be as “perfect” as possible: keep everything in moderation. Spam comments will filter through, your theme may break at times, and your media/files won’t always remain in a structured format. No business or individual running a blog can maintain a consistent format unless they spend too much time on the things that won’t help them progress their blog.
