The Top 10 Social Bookmarking Sites
Social bookmarking sites may not be the best for traffic that will stick around and subscribe to you or contribute to your site’s growth in the long-term. However, the traffic is good if you want to jump start your blog on a path to immediate success, with at least a little recognition from thousands of new visitors. Sure, your site may be brought down under the heavy load, but in the end, you’ll be able to recover with the increased traffic rates.
We classify social bookmarking sites by the way in which content is submitted and aggregated, making it easy for people to share links and resources with others. They have grown in popularity over the past few years, sparked by the rise in blogging.
I’ve used Compete and Yahoo’s Site Explorer for determining the traffic statistics and metrics. Alexa was used when there wasn’t accurate/complete data.

Conclusion
Sure, there are hundreds of other smaller, more focused sites on the Internet for sharing your favorite links and promoting your articles, but these sites combine to represent the largest population of members.
Note: I realize that there may be more sties in-between those listed above and possibly larger, but these are the sites that most bloggers focus on. Additionally, some analytics would be “off” what the actual figures are due to how they are measured.

Wow – Digg is still huge. I though buzz would have passed it by now. These are all great for hours of fun reading but if you just want you bookmarks in your face when you log in http://3qwe.com is great.

Yes, there are many much smaller sites that you can target for getting links and additional traffic, but by focusing on the largest sites, you can exponentially increase traffic. With all the Twitter apps out there, it makes it possible to use the service in a similar way. Digg is still growing, and is within the top 20 most popular sites, at least according to Compete.
