Help Your Readers Out

Helping your readers out can be beneficial for your blog in the long-term. By doing this, you are essentially helping to bridge the gap between your blog and the other bloggers on the web. While you could have all the content published yourself, linking back to it, you could also do the same for other blogs. In other words, you would be providing the service of linking to useful articles, while simply building out your brand name.

As blogs grow, they will likely enter growth and decline periods, and this comes even more frequently when you haven’t published content for a while. However, your brand reputation will only continue to grow and become more concrete as people know of you as someone who is really useful and they will then encourage others to check you out.

Twitter has proven that it is a great way to extend your brand. Unlike email, which was a one-sided conversation, everyone can now participate in the conversation, and they’ll see what you’re all about without having to do extreme marketing.

  • Provide useful information and tidbits through your main Twitter account.
  • Direct message people who have been having issues or have been long-term readers of your blog to thank them.
  • Link to other useful resources within your own content and within Twitter.
  • Don’t always link back to your articles – provide a good variety of resources.

Your long-term strategy should be trying to reach out to as many people as possible, posting support answers on forums, talking to people through the social networking sites, and being present on many other blogs. These will all help you and your blog grow, as you’ll also learn some new things along the way.

I think you’re on the right track. I’ve been helped out numerous times and it always makes me want to either pay it back or pay it forward.

Helping your readers out is certainly a great way to grow a community, and it will help in the long-term for both parties.
