Starting a Blog with Little Experience

We will all start something in a field we have very little experience. There is no way around that. Whether it be online or offline, willingness and desire are the only borders between beginning something and avoiding it. Blogging is the same way.

Everyone who is a blogger today started at point zero. Unless they had some odd skills from a previous job or education, like marketing, promotion, or writing, they might not have known how to create a website or connect with others in a “virtual” environment. They began because they wanted to discover what blogging was all about, and how they could use it to either market themselves online or build a business and brand.

Blogging in a Niche You Despise

Most of us blog because it’s something we want to do. There are some that are forced to blog, or forced to write for a niche that they despise. Although most people will tell you to blog about a niche you love, there are people who must blog as part of their job requirement. Blogging really isn’t that hard, but can it can be quite frustrating, especially when you don’t completely agree with the topics you are forced to write about.

Sure, if you’re getting paid to write in this niche, it might be different, but nonetheless, there are these occasions that blogging may become even more difficult. Some tips to combat this:

  • Deliver to your readers something more than they expect.
  • Be encouraged with the end result.
  • Realize that there are many other jobs which you will likely hate even more.

Starting in a New Niche (or blogging for the first time)

As referenced in the previous point, you will sometime find yourself blogging in a niche that you really don’t know anything about. In this case, there are a few things you need to do before you start.

  1. Research, research, research.
  2. Browse through other sites, joining in the conversation from time to time, and track developments within the niche.
  3. Discover what it really takes to blog and how much is already being written about it on a weekly basis.

Everyone starts with less knowledge than may be ideal, but this didn’t stop them – they learned and became what we know call experts. You, too, can be an expert within a rather short period, simply by learning and analyzing, then reporting and explaining what is happening. Share what insight you have, relating it back to what your readers want, solving whatever problems they may face.
